We are delighted to bring you this antique Arts and Crafts / Aesthetic Movement tiger bamboo Canterbury / Magazine rack.
This delightful piece has the traditional tiger bamboo mottling as well as exquisite Japanese hand painted panels depicting flowers and birds. The top section is perfect for storing decorative items. The bottom section is ideal for storing sheet music (its original purpose), magazines, periodicals and books.
This piece is typical of the Arts and Crafts / Aesthetic Movement of the late 1800’s. The Arts and Crafts movement was born with the intention of moving away from the uniform furniture of the Industrial Revolution. The aim of the Aesthetic Movement was to demonstrate that even the most functional of items could also be beautiful. Whilst there are many different types of furniture from this era, items constructed from Tiger Bamboo were extremely popular.
