ANTIQUE JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD KIMONO STORAGE BASKET
This Antique Japanese monogrammed Kimono storage basket dates from the MEIJI PERIOD ( 1868 to 1912 ) .
The Meiji era was the first half of the Empire of Japan, when the Japanese people moved from being an isolated feudal society at risk of colonization by Western powers to the new paradigm of a modern state .
This Basket is made from hand woven strips of Bamboo then covered in KAKISHIBU WASHI .
KAKISHIBU WASHI is Japanese hand made paper treated with fermented Persimmon juice which makes the paper hard wearing and water proof , an ideal natural covering .
The MONOGRAM would be of the family who commissioned the making of the basket.
