Vintage Solid Oak Bespoke Painted Bookcase Bookshelves in Farrow and Ball Gold Highlights. Shelves.
The shelves are from the 1920’s. They are made of solid oak apart from the ply thick backing. They are very well made and sturdy.
I thought I would add some pizazz to these hand painted bookcase by adding an attractive gold decoration.
Three undercoats were applied and then three coats of Farrow and Ball Wimborne White Estate Eggshell.
To the fronts and other areas I added some gold acrylic artist’s paint.
I then wire wooled the edges to leave an interesting distressed contemporary shabby chic finish.
The finish is therefore in very good condition, although expect brush stroke marks and occasional minor flaws. Not factory sprayed don’t you know!
Farrow and Ball sales pitch on Wimborne White-
‘Wimborne White is named after the market town of Wimborne, Dorset, the home to the first Farrow & Ball factory. It is just Off-White with the addition of the smallest amount of warm pigment to create a very versatile white which is just a little softer than All White but can still be used in contrast to any other Farrow & Ball colour’.
Condition report:
The finish is therefore in very good condition, although expect brush stroke marks and occasional minor flaws. Not factory sprayed don’t you know!
Additional dimensions information:
The gap between the shelves from top to bottom is 28, 25.5 and 23 cm
